It’s strange how, in the entertainment industry, virginity can be such a hot commodity.

Remember when Britney Spears claimed to be a virgin? And Jessica Simpson? Despite their highly sexualized images, they still felt that it was Very Important to be Good Role Models for Little Girls. And that meant staying pure before marriage, even while wearing Daisy Dukes and singing “hit me baby one more time.”

Of course, if you actually believe that they were virgins on their wedding days, then you, no offense, are extremely gullible. I guess you could make the case that it doesn’t matter, as long as they’re talking the talk. But it loses some impact when “virginity” becomes separated from “chastity,” which is, really, the entire point.

October brings with it the sequel to the popular Fable game, Fable 2. Fable and its sequel are developed by Lionhead Studios, developer of the Black & White series of games. It’s been four years since the release of the original Fable on the Xbox and the new features sound very promising. The original was a marvel of game design where every player shaped their own game world. Fable 2 will feature the good vs evil game choices with even more unique features added on top. Read more

You don’t need to be a horror fan to realize that movies like Poltergeist, Dawn of the Dead, Psycho, and Halloween are classics of their genre. Nobody in their right mind would think of remaking a classic drama like Casablanca, but classic horror seems to be up for grabs.

Poltergeist, Dawn of the Dead, Psycho, and Halloween: they’re not just four horror classics, they’re also fair game for remakes. Three of them already have been, and one’s about to. Haven’t heard of the Poltergeist redo? Well, you will soon. Director Vadim Perelman, who helmed the critically acclaimed House of Sand and Fog, is in “heavy talks” to direct.

Brace yourselves for at least a moderate dose of good news, kiddies, because while there’s going to be a sequel to Rob Zombie’s execrable Halloween title, it will NOT involve Rob Zombie.

This round of Halloween will be directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, who were apparently attached to direct the remake of Hellraiser.  While that one’s sort of up in the air right now, at least last time I heard any news about it, I find it interesting that they’re moving on.  Sort of cements the concept that the Hellraiser remake is tanking a bit.

Monday, September 1st will be a sad day for Trekkies everywhere (or, as they often prefer to be called, Trekkers). Star Trek: The Experience, a themed attraction at the Las Vegas Hilton, is closing permanently on that day.

Featuring two themed rides and a Star Trek museum, The Experience also offered ceremonies like weddings and vow renewals (and, one presumes, baptisms and bar mitvahs). A couple from Pennsylvania traveled all the way to Vegas in the attraction’s last days so they could celebrate their 10th anniversary four years early, before The Experience shut down.
