It seems like every time I discover a show that I genuinely enjoy, it immediately starts to suck. I don’t know why this is. I don’t know why it’s impossible for a show to just maintain the same level of quality for more than a few seasons. I’m not paranoid by nature, but I’m starting to wonder if they’re just screwing around with us.

And by “they,” I of course mean the people behind 30 Rock. They wait for the show to get tons of publicity from awards shows, and then immediately start phoning it in. I could go back and watch any old random episode of 30 Rock from the first two season and it would be at least 50% better than “The Funcooker.”

Not that all of this season’s episodes have been bad. Liz’s high school reunion was fantastic and frighteningly insightful, which almost (but not really) makes up for the rest of the lackluster episodes. I don’t know what it is. They seem to be attempting to focus more on Liz’s dark side, what with the high school reunion earlier this season and the near-arson in this last episode. I don’t know if the show’s going to end up with her crashing her car in the GE Building, or marrying Jack, or what. And the sad thing is, I’m not really sure that I care.
