At Least They’re Starting To Try With Saw V

So Lions Gate and Twisted have finally put out a poster for Saw V that approaches scary.  It was a bad sign when the poster promoting the corresponding blood drive was scarier than the poster for the movie itself, but it seems like they’re at least trying to get their act together ahead of the release, but is it a case of too little, too late?

I found the poster out at horror-movies.ca, and it’s definitely a step up from the poster that we originally had, with that ridiculous fake face-mask…but we’re less than two months from the release.

Even the trailers are starting to look weak, with some kind of pseudoreligious angle working for them.  It’s as though they’re trying to get people riled up, and not that many people are taking the bait.  Saw might well be a franchise in decline, and that doesn’t bode well for Lions Gate.

Plain and simple, what else do they have?  Sure, their direct-to-video line is going like a house afire, but theatrically they’re starting to suffer.  Remember those reports not so long ago that said the only reason Lions Gate didn’t lose huge amounts of money this year was due to its sole profitable division, video sales?  If Lions Gate can’t breathe some life back into its theatrical line it’s looking at some serious problems down the road.  Either that or it’s going to have to scale back its operations into a strictly video mode, and that will cost it prestige and resources down the line.

We’ll find out in right around a month and a half, and until then, Saw series trivia awaits on Kwanzoo.
