I’ve often said that there’s nothing worse than the passive breakup. We’ve all seen it, and most of us have probably experienced it. You’re in a relationship, just sort of coasting along, things aren’t great but they’re not bad. They’re okay. You’re pretty sure that nothing has gone horribly wrong, because you’d know.

Maybe, somewhere, in the back of your mind, there is a nagging suspicion that things are not quite right. But you don’t want to jinx it. You’re afraid that you’re just being paranoid, and if you voice this tiny concern, everything will come crashing down around you. You manage to convince yourself that it’s nothing.

Then, it happens.

It’s always secondhand. Generally, it’s a female friend who tips you off, because women love to spread information. Especially hurtful information. I’m a woman myself, and I can verify that this is true.

There’s something going on behind your back. Probably cheating, maybe something else you expect the love of your life not to do. And you realize it’s over. The breakup itself doesn’t happen right away, because you have to wait to talk, but you know hours beforehand that there’s no healing this one. It’s an awful feeling.

And Katherine Heigl just pulled it on the Grey’s Anatomy producers.

Remember back when I tore her a new one for “withdrawing” herself from the Emmys? Turns out that the Grey’s Anatomy team heard about it too, and how she blamed the material. Apparently, it just wasn’t good enough for her to really spread her wings. She didn’t bother telling any of the writers directly; she decided to wait until the Emmys to really drop the bomb. But not to their faces.

Now, apparently, the writers and producers are “angered” and it seems that Heigl’s looking to weasel out of her contract. What a surprise!

It have little respect for people who can’t confront someone face to face. It’s difficult, but it’s part of being an adult and it’s the only honorable way to deal with conflict. Katherine Heigl just keeps getting better…
