Attention Dark Tower fans! If you couldn’t get enough of Stephen King’s exhaustive coverage of Roland the Gunslinger and his assorted adventures, take heart! King himself has just announced that he will be embarking on a film-length version of the Dark Tower, his play to be backed by no less than J.J. Abrams.

Which May Be Bad News, Depending

It’s possible that this will go direct to video or be one of King’s many television miniseries efforts. Which, frankly, is all right – Stephen King’s direct to video efforts are worth a whole lot more than some big studio efforts. Uwe Boll serves as case in point.

And having J.J. Abrams along for the ride could be a mixed bag itself – love him or hate him, you know he goes big in just about everything he does.

The Verdict?

Well, we’re going to have to wait on this one – there’s not even a whole lot of word as to when we’ll see completed product. But still, if you’ve been dying for a live-action Dark Tower, well, this is the shot you’ve been waiting for.

And to take plenty of other shots before then, Gunslinger, then draw on earlier Stephen King work like the 1408 trivia or The Shining trivia at Kwanzoo.
