E3 bits and scraps

- Some guy got caught hiding in an auditorium balcony, listening in on Sony’s press conference rehearsal and posting it to the Internet. There’s no info on who he was or what site he was representing.

Kudos to you, mystery blogger! You know that “No Trespassing” signs are more of a suggestion than a rule. Too bad you got thrown out of the convention, though.

- In a speech, ESA boss Mike Gallagher said that the industry shouldn’t abandon its base of the hardcore gamers. This strikes me as sensible advice. There’s always this idea floating around out there that casual gamers represent this vast untapped market, especially with the iPhone game buzz and Nintendo’s keynote being casual as hell. Wii Music doesn’t even seem like a game, as far as I can tell.

But on the flipside, casual gamers are just that: casual. There may be lots of them to tap, but they don’t spend the kind of money on the industry that the hardcore do. Do you make games for someone who loves them and buys them, or someone who doesn’t?

- Speaking of Nintendo, the company has announced an accessory for the Wii to make it do what I thought it was supposed to do in the first place.
