This is quite possibly a new low for the movie channel conglomerate. And frankly, I’m not so much enraged by this as I am spectacularly disappointed. Really, just all kinds of disappointed.
See, I LIKE Starz. If ever I were going to shell out cash for a movie channel, it would probably be Starz. There’s a spectacular array of movies there covering the gamut from horror to comedy, and that’s why it’s so incredibly hard to admit that they’re contributing to the ridiculous resurgence of the 3-D gimmick.
Kids will soon be able to log onto Starz.com and download both schematics and instructions for the construction of 3-D glassses, so that they can watch the upcoming Hannah Montana concert movie on Starz on Demand and Starz HD on Demand.
They’re using the bait of Hannah Montana to try and subvert kids into following along with this ridiculous 3-D crap, trying desperately to convince kids that they don’t need good stories or convincing characters…that all they need are ridiculous special effects to enjoy a movie! For a network so interested in hawking movies, I can’t believe they’re selling out the future of moviemaking like this.
I weep for the medium.
We may only have a limited amount of time to enjoy film, so for the best of it, try the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 trivia on Kwanzoo.
