The fan translation hack of Mother 3 is finished, though it’s not yet released. Check it:
The Mother series is better known as “Earthbound” in the U.S., but not much better. When Mother 2 was released stateside in 1995, it was a commercial flop.
Still, the series has garnered an absolutely rabid English-speaking fanbase. So when Mother 3 came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, everyone assumed it would come over as “Earthbound 2″ before too long.
Nope. Apparently Nintendo is still gunshy from the ’95 flop.
So this team of guys takes it upon themselves to not just translate the game, but hack it out to make a complete English version. This is not a half-assed job. They even changed the game to support variable-width fonts for readability in English. Make no mistake, this was a monumental task.
They said they would stop the moment Nintendo announced a localized version, but so far they’ve just teased us with main character Lucas in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Jerks.
But now it’s finally coming out! Only a few more weeks left until they finish the internal testing. In the meantime, drool over some screenshots.
