I’m all sorts of upset today, folks…I just found out some really unpleasant news, and of course I’m going to pass it on to you.
Horror buffs will be familiar, no doubt, with the fantastic Jeffrey Combs and the Re-Animator series that he starred in. And it will no doubt enthuse those same horror buffs to hear that a fourth Re-Animator, called House Of Re-Animator, was planned and was actually half-cast. Jeffrey Combs was slated to reprise his role as the coldly maniacal Dr. Herbert West, and also slated to join in was Barbara Clampton, George Wendt of Cheers fame, and even William H. Macy, a spectacular character actor who I personally remember from Mystery Men.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? Too bad it doesn’t exist. It would have, except for one thing. The original script called for it to be a scathing indictment of the Bush administration, with Macy as the Bush analogue and Wendt as Cheney.
Director Stuart Gordon, when asked during a Fangoria interview, said that, simply put, no one was willing to pony up the dough to get it made. Quoth Gordon: “These guys are known for payback”.
Which means, o my readership, I’m likely risking my life from our trigger-happy vice president’s wrath as I decry the government’s indirect censorship that just cost us a Re-Animator. But for you, it’s worth it.
I could scream and rant about how shocking it is that we lost a HORROR MOVIE because Bush and company wouldn’t like the indirectly unflattering portrayal, but I think I’ll let the news stand on its own. It speaks for itself.
