Quite frankly, I’m surprised at how little marketing there has been for X-Files 2. Maybe they don’t need it, but it seems like they’d be trying a little harder to drum up some publicity nonetheless. It seems like the most interesting bits of information have been leaked by sneaky photographers or smuggled out of sci-fi conventions. Perhaps this is a deliberate move intended to stir up anticipation via mystery, or maybe they just haven’t kicked into full gear yet.
Either way, the latest news has fans arguing passionately about whether or not it sucks. There is now a new trailer, which was apparently leaked from a recent convention. As if that weren’t enough, there’s also an official poster. It features tiny, pop-art Mulder and Scully casting huge shadows that conveniently form an X. At the top of poster, a field of stars indicates that the truth might be out there somewhere.
AICN user comments are largely positive: “sweet!” “Love it…simple.” “Nice, but you can’t tell who’s on the poster.” “I like the positive aura.” “isn’t there a movie studio with that type of logo? (not Fox)” and the very clever “X-cellent.” A few dissenting voices cry out “OBVIOUS PHOTOSHOP CRAP” and “The truth, unfortunately is not out there, its in my pants.”
