So Fox Atomic, the guys who’ve given us some truly relentlessly bad movies, have managed to pick up their act a little bit and offer us something a little more lit’ry for our viewing pleasure.

Having optioned the rights to the Kathryn Mackel book “The Surrogates”, we’re in for a real surprise. The plot is where you’ll really freak out—try this out for size: The Dolans, Kyle and Bethany, are looking to have a child, and decide to go with a surrogate mother to ensure the last best chance at getting the job done. The Dolans sign on a med school student named Laurel Bergin, believing her to be perfect in every possible way.

Naturally, this means she’s not even close, a fact evidenced clearly by the fact that Laurel Bergin’s real name is Sable Lynde. Sable, meanwhile, has some particularly nasty connections on the other side, and uses said connections to torment the Dolans to the point where insanity and death both look all too likely.

Like some kind of weird hybrid of “Baby Mama” and “Fatal Attraction”, isn’t it? With some assorted ghouls and ghosties for flavor, “The Surrogates” sounds like it could be a real winner.
