NFC: A new star to watch in the North

Now that Brett Favre is no longer in the NFC North, it’s time for a new star to take over the spotlight. And no, I’m not talking about Aaron Rodgers.

Ok, I’ll give you a couple of clues. He is on the Minnesota Vikings, is not a quarterback and he won the Rookie of the Year award in 2007.

If you still don’t know who I am talking about, the mans name is Adrian Peterson, a first-round draft pick out of Oklahoma.

In his rookie season, Peterson ran for 296 yards in a single-game, an NFL record. He ran for 1,036 in his first eight games last year, also an NFL record.

Peterson ran for 1,314 yards despite not playing in two full games, and only gaining 144 yards in his final four games of the season.

Peterson is bound for glory.

Although the Purple People Eaters have a sketchy quarterback situation, this division is lacking a powerhouse, and the Vikings should be able to edge off the others.

On Monday night the Vikings will take on the Green Bay Packers at 4 p.m. (PST, I’m tired of the east coast bias!)

The Pack may be a slight favorite to win, but I’m going to go out on a limb and predict the Vikings to destroy the Packers at Lambeau field.

It’s hard to envision a Brett Favre-less “Frozen Tundra,” and I’m expecting the Packers to melt off of last season.

The Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears have a lot in common going in to the 2008 season. They both don’t have a good quarterback on their roster and are headed on a downward spiral after a sub-par 2007 season.

NFC North projected standings
Minnesota Vikings 9-7
Green Bay Packers 8-8
Chicago Bears 4-12
Detroit Lions 4-12
