NFL Week 16: Terrible Moments

Bonehead AwardWith the conclusion of Week 16, there is just one week left in the NFL season. Typically, at this time of the season, you expect to see glorious moments. Not the case this week.

Week 16 was full of terrible moments.

Pittsburgh @ Tennessee: Not only did the Titans blow open a 10-7 halftime lead to a 31-14 victory, they stomped all over the sacred Steelers’ Terrible Towel. I’m not a Steelers fan, so I’m not sure if the loss or the towel incident is more embarrassing, but the Titans sure came out of this one looking like the better team. It was a matchup of the No. 1 and No. 2 AFC seeds, but I still don’t buy into the fact that these are the best the AFC has offer come January. And what’s up with Bill Cowher’s commentary on the situation? Can someone please remind him he is no longer the coach of the Steelers!

New Orleans @ Detroit: The Lions are one game away from doing what no team has ever done before: going 0-16. This week the Lions became the first team ever to go 0-15 after being routed 42-7 against Drew Brees and co. Having not won in Green Bay since 1991, you can be assured the Lions will lose next week. I’m not sure who the Lions are going to select in the first round of the NFL Draft next year, but I don’t think one player is going to make a major change. This “team” needs multiple facelifts in order to avoid another terrible season next year.

Cincinnati @ Cleveland: In other embarrassing news, the Browns got shut out at home to the Bengals. Just when you think things can’t get any worse for a team that was supposed to contend for a playoff spot this year, they get blanked by the Bengals. That may be worse than losing to the Lions!

Arizona @ New England: While we are speaking of embarrassing, how about those Cardinals? They may have won the NFC West, but that sure doesn’t mean much considering they are the “best” squad between the terrible Rams, 49ers and Seahawks, which combined have won just four games more than the Cardinals. That’s terrible! A 40-point loss to the Pats sure doesn’t boost anyone’s confidence about the Cardinals’ playoff “hopes.”

Baltimore @ Dallas: Ok, so we got another terrible moment here… maybe you’re catching on to my theme of the week by now. The Cowboys lost to a rookie quarterback at home in the last ever game to be played at Texas Stadium. Did they really give up two 70-plus yard touchdown runs on consecutive runs up the middle? Pathetic. Terrible. Call it what you will… even the Lions would have stopped McClain and McGahee on those scores.
