A promise that a video game development team is working on something “good” isn’t usually worth paying attention to, let alone mentioning.
But if that particular team is the one that created Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, the best games of the past ten years1, it becomes worth noticing.
The following is a quote from Sony VP Shuhei Yoshida in OPM.
[Ico] took four years and the second game took four years too. So I started calling them the ‘Olympic Team.’ They haven’t released a PS3 title yet – of course not – they’ll take four years! But they have something really, really good on the way.
Here’s the hiring site for Team Ico with the first screenshot. It’s… a chain! And a hole! Hooray for chains and holes. This is the first PS3 exclusive I’m actually excited about.
There’s not really any other information about the project, save the possibility that some scribbles in a recruitment ad from last year are actually concept art for whatever it is, but that seems unlikely.
Shadow of the Colossus came out out in late 19952005, so if the Olympic schedule is a still in effect, we’re looking at about another year.
1 This is a matter of subjective opinion.2
2 Not actually. They’re the best.
