Opposites Don’t Attract

This is one of those stories that is very sad in such a strange way, that you’re not sure whether to laugh or cry or make inappropriate jokes. I usually do all three just to be sure. But it’s hard, because I think we’ve all been through an obsessive teenage stage where we fantasized about developing a close friendship (or more) with a celebrity. Can we really judge Paula Goodspeed?

I’m not sure if her shared first name with Paula Abdul is just a bizarre coincidence, but what we do know is that she’s been obsessed with the pop star/American Idol judge for years. She appeared on Season 5 of the show, and her audition tape has been circulating on the Internet. Most people say you can tell she’s unabalanced, and yeah…you can.

“Ms. Goodspeed’s mother had gone to [the sheriff's department] to report her daughter missing, and advised them that she might be suicidal,” says Los Angeles police Capt. James Miller, reports People. “The sheriffs determined that Ms. Goodspeed may be up in the vicinity by Paula Abdul’s house. Our officers discovered her vehicle parked on the street, and found her inside. She was unresponsive to officers.”

Apparently, she was well-known to Abdul.

Abdul’s rep, Jeff Ballard, tells Entertainment Tonight that his client is “shocked and saddened” by the turn of events, adding Abdul has been aware of the woman for “several years” who “has issues.” Abdul was taping the show and was not home when the body was discovered.

This isn’t the first time Goodspeed has been to Abdul’s house. LAPD Capt. James Miller tells People: “Our station has been called to respond to Paula Abdul’s house on multiple occasions over the last several years concerning Ms. Goodspeed. The last time our officers had contact with Goodspeed was in July.”

It’s pretty easy to make light of this situation, but Goodspeed was obviously unhinged and in need of serious help. If someone you love started exhibiting psychotic behavior, please don’t let it go. It’s not harmless and it could end in tragedy.

UPDATE: Apparently, her brother doesn’t think she is insane. Denial’s not just a river in Egypt, broseph.
