I make this kind of declaration on a regular basis, so do take it with a grain of salt. I mean, there’s a lot of really funny stuff out there, and it’s quite possible that you have seen or will see something that is more hilarious – or, at least, as hilarious – as this.
But it’s hard to compete with real-world, unscripted humor. And this video, a clip from Bill Maher’s upcoming documentary Religulous, is just….wonderful.
AHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *breath* HAHAAHAHAHAHAHA. Ha.
Now, if you’re like me, you don’t particularly have a bone to pick with religion. And you might recognize that describing the Creation story as “Adam and Eve in a garden with a snake” is like describing the theory of evolution as “primordial soup turning into a chimp” – it’s easy to make something sound ridiculous by describing it flippantly. But this is just a clip, and hopefully Bill Maher covers the science a little better than that.
But you can’t deny that the punchline of this interview is both hilarious and very, very telling. Separate from the specific issues addressed by Religulous, it’s just pretty much the funniest thing that’s ever been said about our government.
Up until now, I didn’t have much interest in seeing a documentary that consisted of badgering people about their beliefs. I can watch Penn & Teller’s Bullsh*t! for that. But if Religulous contains a lot of stunning revelations like that, I think I’ll have to give it a shot.
