South Park–Elementary School Musical. So You Can’t Win ‘Em All….

All right, so it’s another week and another episode of South Park has come and gone.

And this time, Matt and Trey hit a bit of a sour note by offering up a skewed take on High School Musical.

The plot is simple enough–the boys, namely Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny–find themselves on the bad end of a new trend at South Park Elementary.  Namely, High School Musical.  Amazed that this movie already has a second sequel that made massive bank, and ultimately horrified by its bland musical content (Cartman can’t take the sheer saccharine goodness and, shortly after starting to view it, walks away to commit suicide.  But those hybrids just don’t have the CO punch required….) they agree that they will NOT succumb to this peer pressure and wind up as singing, dancing losers.

Instead, they discover to their deepest chagrin, the musical fad has spread so far that anyone who DOESN’T sing and dance is now a loser.  In this bizarre new world, the theatre department gets the bulk of the funding leaving the basketball team short shrift and the school’s most popular kid is a singing, dancing wonder…who secretly longs to play basketball.

Okay, OKAY, Matt and Trey–you really don’t have to continue bludgeoning us with the themes here.  A large portion of people over the age of twenty five think High School Musical is insipid (I certainly do) and the arts will always get hind tit compared to sports in school.  Thank you.  We’re AWARE.

And guys…FYI…domestic abuse is never really that funny, even IF the guy doing the slapping around is fruitier than Carmen Miranda’s hat.  What, do you really think child abuse is funny as long as the abuser is just fuh-LAMING?  No…it’s really not.  Big Gay Al stopped being funny back around the movie.  Now it’s just pointless.  You have flogged that particular dead horse one time too many at LEAST.

Thus, Elementary School Musical can’t carry a tune in a bucket. But given the success you’ve had with the last few episodes, that’s all right.  You can’t be on every night.
