South Park–Pandemic 2: The Startling.

Yes, I too am startled, for I finished part two of the two-part Pandemic series.

You know when Matt and Trey have to pull a “To be continued” you know they’re going to have a whole lot of lunacy afoot, and indeed, Pandemic did not disappoint.

Continuing the antics of last week, in which the “furry death” emerged from seemingly out of nowhere because there were no longer Peruvian flute bands to hold it at bay, the newest Peruvian flute band made up of our favorite South Park boys plus new arrival with the money Craig, finds itself mostly stranded in Peru about a couple hours’ walk from Machu Picchu, and this incredible coincidence will lead to an epic battle for the fate of the very world.

Is this even the same show that I just tore apart like a month ago as being pointless and crude?  It’s almost unrecognizable.  It went in just a couple half-hour episodes from being revolting to being revolutionary.  I had almost forgotten that these guys were the masters of low-budget tomfoolery, and when they brought in the costumed guinea pigs, the thrust of the whole matter made itself clear to me.

This wasn’t just another show!  This was a HALLOWEEN SPECIAL!!

The Halloween special!  The somewhat forgotten art of sitcom that I just don’t see very much of anymore had managed to come back…in South Park.  Wow.

Really, just…wow.  It’s like finding an old book or an old movie that you hadn’t seen or read in years.  It’s like finding that one particular thing you’d once thought lost.  There’s a sense of amazement there, and it’s the same one I’m feeling here.  I’d almost forgotten anyone did Halloween specials any more.

I’m downright glad to see one back.
