The Big 12 North division was completely outplayed by its counterpart South division. The North’s divisional winner would have wound up in fifth place had it been in the South.
1. Missouri (9-3, 5-3 Big 12) started off 5-0 but dropped the next two against Big 12 South division’s Oklahoma State and Texas. The Tigers rebounded with four straight wins but couldn’t survive the Jayhawks in their finale.
2. Nebraska (8-4, 5-3) struggled against Virginia Tech, Missouri, Texas Tech and Oklahoma, however, it dominated the rest of their competition and its season is good enough for a bowl.
3. Kansas (7-5, 4-4) started off 5-1 with a tough loss to South Florida on national television. The Jayhawks had a tough schedule and could not hang with Texas, Texas Tech or Oklahoma and they didn’t fair well against Nebraska either. Although they are going bowling, the Jayhawks had a disappointing season.
4. Colorado (5-7, 2-6) started off 3-0 with a victory over a ranked West Virginia squad, but then failed to record consecutive victories. They stacked three-game and two two-game losing streaks to finish without being eligible for a bowl game.
5. Kansas State (5-7, 2-6) went on a five-game losing streak after a decent 4-2 start. The Wildcats did not face to stiff of competition and should have been able to record at least six games to become bowl eligible.
6. Iowa State (2-10, 0-8) is clearly the worst team in the Big 12. The Cyclones were 2-0 and then dropped their next 10 straight.
