I can’t remember the last time I laughed and laughed at a T.V. show. Just laughed and laughed with almost no time to catch my breath, because it was just so funny and wonderful and absurd. Wait, I can remember – it was during the last season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
Now it’s that time again!
It was the final week of two back-to-back “Sunny” episodes before FX premiers the new series “Testees.” It was a sad time, but bittersweet, because the two episodes were so great.
Remember Mac’s dad, the scary criminal whose intentions are always misunderstood? He’s back, and despite Mac and Charlie’s best efforts to deny him parole, he manages to get out of prison and the guys fear for their lives due to last season’s indiscretions. Their plan?
Fake their own deaths. Obviously.
But since they’re Mac and Charlie, they can’t do it right. Pawn shops, grenades, and hobo bindles are all part of their complex plan to fool their friends (and the world) into thinking that they have committed suicide. Dee is less than thrilled that the guys crashed her car, and she’s even more irritated when she sees them fighting on the street and realizes they’re still alive.
This being such a massive plot, it’s spread over two parts. The B-storyline involves Dennis and Frank trying to participate in a hot orgy. They discover the sad truth that most orgy participants are ugly, fat, and lonely, then Dennis decides to advertise in the paper for a “Three’s Company type situation” with two female roommates. What he gets is a kinky European guy who’s willing to help out – but what, exactly, does THAT mean?
“Mac and Charlie Die,” Parts 1&2, are good old-style Sunny fun. Mac’s obsession with a wedding dress found in a pawn shop, Charlie’s attempt to break his own window to escape, Dee’s reaction to riding on the bus…it’s all wonderful and hilarious. The gang is finally back.
