The Art of the Movies

Posters. They’re everywhere. On our walls, in our theaters, on our billboards, in our Blockbusters. What are they? Where do they come from? No one can be sure, but by studying these strange creatures, we can hope to understand them better. Here are some posters you may soon see in your hometowns and dorm rooms (where, studies show, 80% of all movie posters reside).

Iron Man

Iron Man poster

It’s hard to throw a stone in the blogging world without hitting some Iron Man updates, especially since WonderCon, which featured director John Favreau in attendance. There’s quite a bit of awesome-looking merchandise (including a very expensive bust), but even more interesting to many fans is a new poster that features the three different stages of Iron Man‘s armor.

Personally, I find Mark 2 most attractive of the three, but it’s all a matter of taste. In any case, this shows some previously unseen detail on Marks 1 and 2.

Bond 22: Quantum of Solace

Indiana Jones Poster

This is still just the teaser poster, unfortunately, but it does give the impression of picking up right where Casino Royale left off. Hopefully the full poster will be even better, unlike Casino Royale‘s disappointment.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones

This stylized poster remains in the same vein as earlier Indiana Jones art. It’s simple and effective: here’s Indy, and he’s come to whip some bad guys and steal some skulls. It doesn’t reveal much about the movie, but it does do a decent job of hiding Indy’s wrinkles.

If you’re tired of analyzing cryptic artwork, check out James Bond trivia or Indiana Jones trivia to pass the time until the new ones hit the theaters.
