“The Real Ghostbusters” Complete DVD Set

’80s nostalgia has never been bigger than it is now. Those of us who grew up on T.V. from the Reagan era have now become part of the buying public, and we love to spend money on things that remind us of the good old days.

LIKE GHOSTBUSTERS.

Ghostbusters was one of the quintessential ’80s films. Everything about it – the stars, the soundtrack, the special effects – speaks to the era it came from. And there’s no shortage of spinoffs and merchandise to keep the memory alive. And there is no further proof of the fact that ’80s nostalgia is the nostalgia of the ’00s than the fact that Time Life, of all places, is getting in on the action.

Ironically titled “The Real Ghostbusters,” this highly popular spinoff cartoon is not to be confused with just plain Ghostbusters, which capitalized on the popularity of the film but had almost nothing to do with it. The shows aired at the same time, but as any real “Ghostbusters” fan will tell you, it’s all about “The Real Ghostbusters.” Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, and Ray Stanz all appear just as you remember them from the 1984 classic, except a little more…animated.

And now, thanks to Time Life, you can own every single episode on DVD.

Available for the first time on DVD! Get all 147 episodes of The Real Ghostbusters plus over TWELVE HOURS of bonus material. This special offer includes a deluxe firehouse collector’s box with lenticular (hologram) panels on the front and sides. Inside this box are 5 separate steel book cases containing a total of 25 DVDs with every episode from The Real Ghostbusters and Slimer!

A must have for any Ghostbuster fan.

It’s a set of 25 discs for only $179.99, which can also be paid in easy installments in case you need that money to buy bread for your family. In these troubled economic times, I’m really not sure how I feel about Time Life encouraging people who don’t have $180 to spare to spend it on a set of DVDs that contain an ’80s cartoon. If they keep this up, pretty soon they’ll be in line for a billion-dollar bailout.

Someday this set will probably get out from under the overpriced umbrella of Time Life, but at a cost of about $7 per disc, I doubt this set is going to dip much lower. So if the idea of enjoying these cartoons again makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, Time Life is here for you. But please don’t take bread from your family.
