It’s been some time since the last video game news roundup, so here’s a sampling of things from around the web.
- The Pyro update for Team Fortress 2 hits Thursday. We’ll see if Valve learned its lesson from last time.
Even more importantly, the “Meet the Sniper” video comes out tomorrow. You can see the previous “Meet the…” videos here.
- Destructoid has a preview up for a game called Penumbra: Requiem, evidently the third in a series of apparently well-regarded horror games. I say “apparently” because despite this being the third, I’ve never heard of the franchise before, which is unusual. Alas, so many games to play, so little time.
Also interesting is that the game appears to be forgoing the retail market and sticking with direct download delivery.
- For those of you who don’t play MMOs, you may not know about the story of the Star Wars Galaxies relaunch. In a legendary moment in game design, a fundamental overhaul of SWG completely alienated its customer base. Dan Rubenfield apologized this week for a the “epoch grade fuckup.” (His words, not mine.) It has gotten a few comments and since been edited. Both links came from GameSetWatch.
- In the middle of Wired’s writeup on the Spore Creature Creator is an answer to my previous question about sentient phalluses. Things are blockable at the user level, and you can restrict where your content comes from.
- Leaks! So very many leaks! I only really care about the possibility of a new You Don’t Know Jack for the Wii, though.
