Seriously.  Somebody please explain this to me because I’m just dying to know.

Like a whole lot of people out there–people just like Matt and Liz with whom I’m in somewhat rare agreement–I’m terribly fond of the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim series The Venture Brothers.  It’s a great blend of comedy, super-science, and two doofus kids who remind me entirely too much of how I was when I was a kid.  And that was not so long ago!

But anyway–I digress.  Following the progression of The Venture Brothers is revealing an odd new trend–notably, the advancement of Dean Venture into the realm of the total badass.

It’s been the last two episodes that underscored it for me–just last week, I watched Dean singlehandedly beat holy hell out of some kid who insulted his clearly beloved Triana Orpheus.  Okay, sure, it was awkward, and he was crying through the whole thing in a fashion that by comparison made Ralphie’s fistfight in A Christmas Story look like a heavyweight title-fight, but still.  Those were Dean’s spindly little arms slamming those tiny fists repeatedly into that horrible little asshole’s face.

And then, just minutes ago, I watched Dean very nearly get a threesome in the jungle.  No, seriously.  DEAN. VENTURE.  Clearly getting set up to make a run on at LEAST second base by the nearly-identical jungle-dwelling twins Nancy and Drew.  They LICKED his EAR.

Once again I advise you that I am being TOTALLY SERIOUS.

Wasn’t this the same guy who, while part of the Venture clan’s group costume attempt before crash-landing into Underland (I’d add the umlaut there but I’m not quite sure how) dressed up as Slave Leia and was very nearly MARRIED by Baron Underbheit?  Now suddenly he’s landing hot goth chicks and steamy near-threesomes in the jungle from near-identical twins?  How does THIS happen?  By what bizarre confluence of events in the universe does Dean Venture go from mistaken for a lady to ladies’ man?

This is very, very weird, and one of several reasons I continue to look forward to Sunday night for more Venture.
