Which gaming device is right for you?

Hey everybody. As the dev team continues to refine the Kwanzoo user-created quizzes, I’d like to point out a few of the features you’ll be able to use, using this quiz here as a demo.

Now, this is a pretty simple quiz that I just whipped up. It’s set up to end with four categories: casual/portable, casual/stationary, hardcore/portable and hardcore/stationary.

In the end, we’re trying to recommend you one of four groups of products: Light, cheap games on the cell phone market; the casual world of the Wii and browser gaming, the higher-performance DS and PSP, and the upper eschelons of the Xbox 360, PS3 and dedicated gaming PCs. We take into consideration things like how seriously you take gaming and where you want to game.

One of the interesting things about the Kwaonzoo system is you can assign one answer to add points to multiple outcomes. For instance, if an answer indicates that a person would like a portable device more than a big stationary one, I can add weight towards the category that recommend the DS/PSP handhelds as well as the category with casual cell phone games. Different questions will help decide if they’re hardcore or casual.

This makes the Kwanzoo quizzes pretty flexible. You could make a personality quiz as simple as the “Which Naruto character are you?” sort of quizzes that are common on the Internet, or something as complex as a Myers-Briggs test. It’s got some possibilities that I still want to tinker with.

Besides just giving people the ability to make fun quizzes, we’re looking helping people connect an audience to a product, as well as learning something about their audience along the way.

This quiz, for instance, asks how much time you spend playing video games at once. If it turns out most people hitting your site play in short bursts, it might make sense to develop games that can be experienced without much time committment, either with smaller games overall or games that autosave frequently.

Once the user-created quizzes are out of beta, you’ll see it here first. Stay tuned.
