2008 Emmy Nominations: Comedy
I was kind of excited to comment on these nominations, since I’m a big fan of comedy, and what little T.V. I watch tends to fall into that category. But, the more I look at them, the more I realize that I’ve only seen a few of these shows enough to judge whether or not the Academy is smoking crack.
Outstanding Comedy Series
30 Rock
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Entourage
The Office
Two And A Half Men
Once again, Two and a Half Men. I don’t think anyone outside of the Academy watches this show or likes Charlie Sheen anymore, if they ever did. It’s about on the level with most mediocre sitcoms on T.V., yet it always gets nominated for something. Always. If you will, take a jaunt down to the best episode nominations…
Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series
30 Rock • Rosemary’s Baby
Entourage • No Cannes Do
Flight Of The Conchords • Sally Returns
Pushing Daisies • Pie-Lette
The Office • Money (Parts 1 & 2)
The Office • Goodbye, Toby
See? They can’t even find an episodes of Two and a Half Men that’s good enough to nominate. They even filled it out with two episodes of The Office to try and hide the fact, but we’re far too cunning for that. Oh yes.
Anyway, as usual, I’m pulling for 30 Rock in every possible category. It needs the attention and more viewership, because it is an amazing show. The episode nomination is interesting; “Rosemary’s Baby” is the episode that guest-stars Carrie Fischer, and it’s interesting and novel and funny, but it’s far from being the best episode of the show. But since Fischer was nominated for best guest actress on a sitcom, it makes sense.
I’m also a big Flight of the Conchords fan, and “Sally Returns” is definitely a highlight. It’s the conclusion of two big romantic storylines, plus, you get to see Jemaine try to live in a closet. That’s just good T.V.
I can’t judge the rest, although I’ve heard that “Entourage” is good and I plan to watch it someday. Any input from those of you who are lucky enough to have cable and free time? That must be a great life.
