Pierce Brosnan’s Surprisingly Busy Schedule

January 26th, 2008 Steve Anderson 5 comments

A Surprisingly busy guy.Pierce Brosnan’s been a surprisingly busy guy of late—in fact, he’s so busy that he’s actually filming two different movies, back to back. And that’s a rough schedule for any actor to try and keep up. Just ask Martin Lawrence—I think that guy’s got a personal stake in every bad movie ever released.

But Anyway.

Get Smart (Or Not)

January 26th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

They’re everywhere - from The Dukes of Hazzard to Bewitched. Before long, every classic T.V. show will make it to the silver screen. It doesn’t even matter if they’re good (obviously), if there’s a nostalgia audience, they will get made. And so comes Get Smart.

Get SmartGet Smart was a funny show in its time. Steve Carell sounds like good casting, and the teaser trailer looked pretty funny. But now that the full international trailer has been released, fans and critics are slightly less enthusiastic.

Hayden Panettiere–Back In The Saddle and Basket Toss Again.

January 26th, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

Even she realizes this is getting sad.It wasn’t so very long ago that me and a dear friend were talking back and forth over the subject of Frankie Muniz. You know, the poor little schmuck who played brainy socially inept jerk Malcolm for seven seasons of Malcolm in the Middle and then went on to conquer Hollywood by playing the exact same character over and over again in a half a dozen movies, give or take? Well, you may not be too conversant, but Heroes heroine Hayden Panettiere spent a little time with Frankie on Malcolm, but Hayden’s got something of a different problem.

Dancing in the Sun

January 26th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

Sundance! It certainly has the best title of any major film festival. If that’s not enough for you, bear in mind that many small-time movies use Sundance as an opportunity to find a distributor. What makes it to your hometown theatres is determined by studio representatives somehow in Utah. Encouraging, isn’t it?

SundanceBut now, thanks to blogs, we get a sneak peek at what’s likely to make it to the marquees in the upcoming months. So what’s up with Sundance? What are everyone’s favorites? Let’s take a look.

Constantine: He’ll See You In Hell.

January 25th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

Nerd rage is a powerful force. It influences the production of every comic book movie, from Spider-Man to Ghost World. There is a core group of fans who will be camping out on the eve of the film’s release, in full costume, and they are the ones who go home and blog about it and determine how well the film will perform in the following weeks. It’s best to stay on their good side.

ConstantineSo when Warner Brothers secured the rights to the Hellblazer comics, they naturally decided to take endless liberties with the source material and pretty much ignore how the fanbase would feel about the whole thing. Oddly enough, the whole exercise turned out much better than one would expect - but don’t say that to a Hellblazer fan.

John Carpenter Sucks–L.A. Gothic to Include Vampires?

January 25th, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

John Carpenter, back for…well…more of the same. But that’s okay!In a truly rare turn of events that already has me somewhat on the edge of my seat, it’s been rumored that the one and only John Carpenter will be making his way back to theaters. He’ll be bringing with him the movie L.A. Gothic, which is rumored to contain lots of vampires, nothing new for him.

What Can Blu Do for You?

January 25th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

There was a time when high-definition wasn’t so complicated. Years ago, as HD TVs first started appearing on the market, they assured us that soon - not right now, but soon enough - we would have high definition DVDs to go along with them. We smiled, and nodded, and kept buying our lowly regular-type DVDs. We were happy. We unconverted to our HD TVs when we got them, and that was good enough.

Blu-Ray vs. HD DVDBut somehow, unlike with HD TVs, nobody agreed on an industry standard before different companies began developing discs. HD DVDs were developed cheaply, with fewer extra features and lower quality. Their players are now much cheaper on the market. Then came Blu-Ray: more expensive, less stable, but with many more enjoyable features and considerably higher picture and sound quality.

Looks Like We’re In For Stormy Weather–Storm Warning Coming to Dimension Films

January 25th, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

Looks like we’re in for stormy weather! If you remember the Urban Legend movies, you’ll have a memory of a none too shabby teen slasher flick of the kind that was so popular following the release of Scream in the late nineties. Thus, it shouldn’t be any too much of a surprise to hear that Urban Legend director Jamie Blanks will be bringing his film Storm Warning to Dimension Films.

Marcus Theatres Won’t Show Cloverfield–Dumb? Or Just Really Dumb?

January 24th, 2008 Steve Anderson 3 comments

The difference between this and a Marcus Theatre? You can see Cloverfield here. Here’s one for the Shooting Ourselves In The Foot Department—a theater chain called Marcus Theaters, as it’s relayed to me via horror-movies.ca, refuses to show Cloverfield in any of its theaters. They also refused to host any showings of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
