Movie Trivia: Top Ten Horror Anthologies–Argument Fodder For Days.

So recently, horror-movies.ca took on a list of the ten best horror-themed anthology TV shows. This is probably a decent idea as there were plenty of them, and some much better than others. In fact, the only real problem anyone can have with the list was that The Twilight Zone was not included due to it being mostly science fiction with a smidge of supernatural goings-on thrown in for variety. Ostensibly, this is also why similar show The Outer Limits was not included.

And of course, there will be plenty that disagree with the ordering. Putting Tales From the Darkside, George Romero’s classic series of horror TV ahead of longtime fan favorite Tales From The Crypt is a ballsy move to say the least. Putting Masters of Horror at number six was probably not a bad idea given that only the first season was any good.

Movie Trivia: Saw V–No Longer Appears on Any Map

And so the great Saw Engine descends into its own little valley of madness—the question is, does anyone want to follow this thing down?

Frankly, I do. It looks like it’s going to be a spectacular train wreck, and I can hardly wait to see the fallout!

Movie Trivia: Weinstein Bros. Bringing It Pixar Style With “Igor”

These days, when movie marketing manages to overexpose even the most appealing of projects, it’s kind of refreshing (and confusing) when you hear about something for the first time. If you read film blogs with any regularity, you’re probably familiar with every Disney/Pixar production up through 2011 at the very least. And as cute as WALL*E looks, with the teasers and the images and all the hype, I’m getting a little sick of the movie before I’ve even seen it.

Meet Igor. Igor is a Weinstein Brothers production - yes, it’s animated, and no, it’s not Pixar or Dreamworks. I know. It’s hard to imagine, but such things do exist. It also sounds like a delightful little tale. Cinematical recently premiered the teaser poster. According to AOL Movies, Igor is: [Read more →]

Movie Trivia: Howie Mandel + Don Mancini = Death On Video

I’m really rather baffled about how this actually came to pass. Howie Mandel, whom you’ll likely not remember at all before he shaved his head and took over a game show, is executive producing a project called “Kill Switch”. It’s about a woman who can transfer her consciousness into the bodies of people about to be murdered.

If this sounds somewhat familiar, it should, and with good reason. Much the same as “Child’s Play”, the franchise-starting classic about a serial killer who, through voodoo capabilities and the nigh-constant invocation of the voodoo god Damballa, managed to transfer his soul around from body to body to doll and then failed to move to another body. Oh…and guess who’s writing the script for “Kill Switch”? Who else?—“Child’s Play” writer Don Mancini.

Movie Trivia: Blockbuster Morphs Into Starbuckster

Back when your local video rental store was your only source for the latest movies, you didn’t really question their purpose. You went in, picked out your movie, and got out. As the years went by, chains like Blockbuster started adding their own version of concession stands - overpriced soda, candy, and popcorn, not to mention the $40 posters of Audrey Hepburn or James Bond. The market was expanding, and so was your friendly local Blockbuster.

Then Netflix came along.

Movie Trivia: A Tale of Two Amys on “The Office”

Amy Ryan. Previously unknown, but recently lauded for her heart-wrenching performance as the bereaved mom in Gone Baby Gone, she was such a perfect fit for her role that security on set occasionally mistook her for a trashy Dorchester drug addict trying to muscle her way into the movie.

Far From Perfect

Have you ever wondered how long it takes to make a quality video game? Well, if Perfect Dark Zero is any indication, not even five years is enough time to salvage a doomed concept. But should all the blame for PDZ’s failure be placed on Rare’s shoulders?

After Nintendo dumped Rare into Mircrosoft’s open arms for a preposterous sum of money, people have raised their collective expectations of this company. Despite the massive amount MS spent on this historic developer, Rare isn’t exactly a blockbuster developer. Aside from the insanely popular Goldeneye and exceptional Donkey Kong Country franchise, Rare has been cranking out high quality niche hits for 20 years. Why did people expect anything to change under new ownership?

The Wii2–Have You Seen It? Maybe You Have….

The future of the Wii is an object shrouded in mystery–what new features will it have? What can we do with it? Will there be any decent games released for once, and will they finally, FINALLY, manage to look as good as PS3 and Xbox 360 titles?

The answer to any of these questions is the same. We don’t really know. But a recent tech demo has given us something to play with. Headed by Johnny Lee, it seems that they’ve found a way to incorporate head tracking movements into a system, including the upcoming game Boom Blox, before that feature was removed. The fact that it existed to BE removed in the first place suggests firmly that it could be brought back. Even more interesting is a virtual whiteboard for use with the Wii, as well as a whiteboard with multi-touch capability akin to an iPhone.

Looking For Love? Get A 360!

I know, I know–it sounds counterintuitive. Sounds counterintuitive to me too, frankly, but more and more, the pickup line of choice seems to be “What’s your Gamertag”? Or its other-system equivalent, of course.

There’s this couple, recently fans of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Lockdown. They were playing for some time–they even started out hating each other–and eventually grew to enjoy each other’s company. So much, in fact, that they decided to make the jump from teammates to People Who Actually Knew Each Other and decided to meet. No small task since the gamers were based in Georgia and the Bronx. And after they met, you can tell the rest–they fell in love and had their first child recently.

Xbox Live To Become Crappy Television Clearing House

A dark sign rises in the sky, o my readership.

Now, you wouldn’t think that this news–that Xbox Live is about to get a few ORIGINAL SHOWS added to its lineup–would be a bad thing. No, you might well think, there could be some really great pieces in there! And there might well be, at least until you hear who’s in charge of the whole affair.
