An ironic Super Bowl XLIII “recap”: Warner throws four interceptions and retires, Parker wins MVP and request for BCS-type system, “Big Ben” runs for 50 yards, Fitzgerald requests for trade

January 30th, 2009 Matthew Kimel No comments

Troy Polamolu returned one of Kurt Warner’s four interceptions for a touchdown and Willie Parker winged past the Cardinals for 135 yards on the ground and two scores as the Pittsburgh Steelers won their record-breaking sixth Super Bowl 31-14 over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday in Tampa.

Super Bowl XLIII was as lopsided as predicted. The favored Steelers dominated the Cardinals on both sides of the ball and two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner was a non-factor throughout the game, completing just 20 of 44 passes for 195 yards.

Endless reasons why the Steelers will win the Super Bowl

January 29th, 2009 Matthew Kimel No comments

I’m struggling to come up with legitimate reasons why the Arizona Cardinals could win the Super Bowl this year. All I’ve got: they have gotten lucky every step of the way and, maybe, just maybe, they could get lucky one more time.

On the other hand, I have begun to compile endless reasons why the Steelers will win the Super Bowl, other than the fact that they have the best scoring defense (giving up just under 14 points per game in the regular season) and gave up the least yards per game, the least passing yards per game and the second least rushing yards in 2008.

The Shadow Self: Persona 4 and Carl Jung

January 29th, 2009 Matthew Boyd No comments

There’s been an essay or two on the symbolism of Persona 4, but I haven’t seen any that talk about what might be the most obvious influence on the game’s story: Jungian psychology. I thought I would give it a shot.

Be warned, we’re going to be talking about plot spoilers below the cut. If you’re playing but you’re not past the second set of dungeons, you might want to skip this.

Four Ways Your Family Can Fight the Recession

January 27th, 2009 Liz N. No comments

These days, effective money management is more important than ever. Although your income might be steady today, there’s no telling what will happen tomorrow - and if times get even tougher, you want to be prepared. Improving your money-saving techniques is useful in two ways: you can spend more money in vital areas, and you can save more for tighter times in the future. (Financial experts recommend putting away as much as six months to a year’s worth of expenses in case of bad times; while this may not be possible for everyone, it’s a goal to strive for.)

The Steelers deserve to be in the Super Bowl

January 26th, 2009 Matthew Kimel No comments

Prior to the start of the season, I (and many others) thought the Pittsburgh Steelers had the toughest schedule of all NFL teams. Boy, was I wrong. The Steelers and those terrible towels are now headed to Tampa to play in the Super Bowl.

Death Knight Tanking and You: A Frost Guide

January 24th, 2009 Matthew Boyd 3 comments

The Death Knight class was a godsend to World of Warcraft players in pickup groups. Now any of the game’s 11 million players could start a character capable of tanking, once a role in extremely short supply, and have them ready for the new dungeons in no time at all.

Thing is, all the new tanks are a double-edged sword. A lot of them don’t know what they’re doing. Besides the inexperience, a Death Knight is a complex class compared to traditional tanks like the Warrior and Paladin, which doesn’t make the learning curve any easier. Even experienced players might have some trouble at the outset. This article is meant to give you the basics. With a little practice, you’ll be taking hits like a pro and winning the gratitude of your other party members.
