Old guys don’t belong under center in the Super Bowl, and neither do the Arizona Cardinals

January 22nd, 2009 Matthew Kimel No comments

It was a year full of ironic moments - New England’s Tom Brady got knocked out in his team’s first game, San Diego made an 8-8 playoff run, and Baltimore’s rookie quarterback Joe Flacco led his team to the AFC Championship. So, it makes perfect sense that the Arizona Cardinals will be playing in the Super Bowl, I guess.

Actually, it doesn’t. Not at all. No matter how many times I say it, it just doesn’t sound right in my mind.

Kwanzoo Lifestyles: Top Eight Fashion Blogs

January 16th, 2009 Liz N. No comments

We all want to look good. Of course, “looking good” means different things to different people - and for some, fashion takes a backseat to more practical concerns, such as not wanting to get up three hours early every morning to work on your hair and makeup and coordinate outfits. But the internet has made it much easier for everyone, even lazy folks like me, to get a sense of what’s hot and what’s not. Whether you’re a clotheshorse or a tomboy, there is a fashion blog out there for you.

Street Peeper
If you’re sick of runway styles that don’t even remotely resemble anything a real human would wear, Street Peeper is here for you. They highlight practical “street styles,” featuring cool slouchy tee-shirts, cozy overcoats, and comfy sheath dresses. The designers range from Chanel to Lee, so to replicate a complete look on a budget, you’d probably need to be a little creative. However, when it comes to assembling outfits, Street Peeper is your go-to blog.

NFL Championship Sunday: Ravens and Eagles soar to Super Bowl matchup?

January 16th, 2009 Matthew Kimel No comments

Ok, I’ll admit it: My NFL playoff predictions have been, well, embarrassing and far from correct at times the last two weeks. But I’m not the only one who has been off. At least, unlike the ESPN Sports Guy, I had a winner last week!

Just how bad have I been in the playoffs? I’m 2-2 on the AFC side of the bracket and a miserable 1-3 on the NFC. So, by backtracking and analyzing my picks, I’ve come to a few realizations. I know absolutely nothing about the Cardinals - not like you did either - and I have been dead on the money about the Ravens. Continuing on that track, I’m going to put my best foot forward, let’s take a look at the AFC Championship Game first.

‘Is it the BCS or the BSC’: Did Florida deserve to be No. 1 and what about the Utes and the third parties?

January 15th, 2009 Matthew Kimel No comments

At the start of the college football season, 119 teams all had a chance to win the BCS National Title, right? Well, that is, of course, if you believe that the BCS is a fair system that gives each team an equal opportunity to win it. Hello? Utah, anybody?

While I did indeed select Florida as my preseason pick to win the National Title, I’m not so certain that it did indeed deserve the honor. Though Florida did win the National Title Game, win (arguably) the best conference in the Football Bowl Subdivision and defeat six ranked-at-the-time opponents, it had one thing Utah didn’t - a loss on its resume.

Movie-Based Games That Were Actually Good

January 14th, 2009 Matthew Boyd No comments

There are a few things that every serious gamer knows: Bad guys always carry loose change, guns bob and spin in midair, and any game based on a movie is going to be terrible. Even movies that are practically video games already, like Iron Man, make for terrible games, though lucrative ones.

NFL Divisional Playoffs: Forget the Titans, remember the Ravens, Steelers’ Parker shatters Chargers hopes, The Cardinals did what to who?, Eagles hold down Giants

January 12th, 2009 Matthew Kimel No comments

Call it bizarre, unpredictable or the weekend of the dogs - maybe you could even call it football. But, three of the top four seeded NFL teams got knocked out of the playoffs this weekend with home field advantage and a week off to prepare in their favor.

Next Sunday Pittsburgh will host Baltimore - the Steelers have already beat the Ravens twice this season - and Philadelphia will travel on the road for the third straight week to square off against the Cardinals - a rematch of a game which the Eagles soared to a 48-20 romp several week’s ago. Let’s take a look at what went wrong for who…

2008 Golden Globes: A Bleak Affair

January 12th, 2009 Liz N. No comments

If I had to pick one word to describe the majority of the 66th Annual Golden Globes, I’d have to go with “drab.” There were a few surprises, and very few “sure things” in any category - even so, there was very little to get excited about. Blogger Nick Plowman of Fataculture put it thusly, in his Globes prediction article:

After its unavoidable departure into actual redundancy last year, there is no doubt in my mind that this year the [Hollywood Foreign Press Association] are going to suffuse their telecast with as much star power as is physically possible – which is the only reason one ought to watch it in the first place. It doesn’t help, however, that this year’s awards race is blindingly mundane even though it is very much an insecure deal.
