You need a dog in your life. They don’t cost much to take care of, and pound for pound, they’ll give you more love and loyalty than you can ever hope to repay. It’s been several decades since Douglas Adams first imagined the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, an all-digital, all-encompassing, user-written encyclopedia for savvy interstellar travelers. Of course, he was writing a comedy. Now, without a hint of irony, we all obsessively refer to Wikipedia on our internet-enabled smartphones - yet far too many of us are overlooking the most obvious use of this technology. If you’ve been looking at getting into e-books and other post-post-modern forms of literature, Kwanzoo has a new quiz just for you.

Anime’s popularity has surged in the United States over the last few decades, but it can sometimes be hard explaining to people sometimes that anime isn’t a genre, it’s a medium. It’s not all doe-eyed schoolgirls and giant robots. (Admittedly, a lot of it is, but that’s beside the point.) In this post, I’m going to break down some of the top-level genres in anime and occasionally point out how they differ from Western popular entertainment.

Lately, I’ve found myself afflicted by something I like to call Playlist Ennui. A lot of the time, when I pop on my iPod to listen to some tunes, I end up clicking through hundreds of songs at a time because I’m just so sick of the same old thing. Even the fact that I’ve accumulated over 2,000 mp3s doesn’t save me from the dreaded Playlist Ennui, because I’ve had most of them for years, and that’s plenty of time to make it through a few thousand songs a few hundred times. The problem with finding new music nowadays is that there is way too much out there. It’s not as simple as just tuning into the radio; there’s MySpace and Last.fm and hundreds of other websites that can throw handfuls of recommendations at you without batting an eye. It’s overwhelming. Take a deep breath. I can help.
