When I read about the OnLive service being demoed at the GDC, I didn’t believe it.
In a nutshell, the game runs on their expensive hardware instead of your inexpensive laptop or set-top box. Your controller input goes to their machines over the Internet. Video of what’s happening gets streamed back to your tv or computer.

I’ve already dealt with Quantum of Solace’s merits as a film, but now that the DVD’s out, it’s time to revisit what the latest Bond flick looks like on the small screen. Here’s a hint: smaller. Like most action films, it suffers a little from the shrinkage. Bond films are better the more you’re absorbed in their world, even with their enhanced realism since Craig took on the mantle. Unless you have a home theater, it’s tough to duplicate the experience of seeing Quantum of Solace at the local multiplex.

I’m pretty embarassed about a mistake I made in the Resident Evil 5 first impressions I posted. I said there was no split-screen co-op play.
Well, there is, as it turns out. It’s just sort of hidden.

So, this is the series finale of Flight of the Conchords. Maybe. Bret and Jemaine don’t seem sure, and neither does anyone else. It certainly felt like the end, and if they wanted to do another season, they’d have to find a way for the guys to re-enter the country despite their status as illegal aliens.
As the title implies, this episode opens with the guys being evicted from their apartment. As it turns out, they owe years of back-rent for having paid the previous rents in checks made out in New Zealand dollars. They’re unable to afford it, and so must leave. Homeless and desperate, they move into Mel and Doug’s house. This leads Bret to have an inexplicable fever dream in which he, Mel, and Doug are all trapped on a boat in vintage navy uniforms and turn to cannibalism to survive. As it turns out, Bret and Jemaine’s presence is too much of a strain on Mel and Doug’s already failing marriage, and the two decide to separate, working out a custody arrangement with the guys.

“Big Love” has set a fascinating precedent for its next season. It’s not often that show’s season finale creates a true hunger for the next episode, but I can’t wait for more. Unfortunately no one seems to know or care when the show is coming back, despite the fact that it’s been rapidly gaining popularity all around. At least there will be a fourth season, no question there.
Okay, where do I start? Apparently, Margene is a capable saleswoman. I’m not sure in what parallel universe Big Love takes place; there don’t appear to be any tangible issues with the economy that would prevent people from spending $50 on a silver bracelet from a shopping channel. I have a feeling that Marge’s business venture is eventually going to come back around to bite her, because this is “Big Love,” after all. But it’s still nice to see her being successful and proving herself to the family.

I’ve always liked watching Vin Diesel talk. Besides having a voice that sounds like it was fed backwards through a wheat harvester, he seems like a guy who’s just totally satisfied to be the person he is.
Vin was on a British talk show last week to promote the new Fast and Furious movie. While he was on, the host brought up World of Warcraft. The video is after the jump.

Joss Whedon is really, really lucky. He has devoted fans that will stick with his shows through thick and thin - and these days, internet buzz might just be enough to keep another “Firefly” alive. Which isn’t to say “Dollhouse” is necessarily another “Firefly.” But it’s on the right track. Finally.

Well, we knew it wouldn’t last. Liz Lemon’s romances always go south, particularly when they feature guest stars who are busy on other shows. It’s just a matter of when and how. This time it was Mad Men’s John Hamm, playing a very sexy doctor who seemed too good to be true. And now, finally, we’ve found the catch.

Don’t get me wrong: I like that “The Office” can get serious and do it effectively. It is, in my book, the mark of a truly great comedy. If, even through all the hijinks, you can get people to truly feel compassion for the characters and become attached to them - that’s just great art.
