Video Game trivia: Guitar Hero World Tour’s music creation system hinted at
Kotaku has the press release and new screenshots for Guitar Hero World Tour, aka Guitar Hero 4. They chose to lead off the blurb with the screenshot of the music creation system, which is by far the most compelling bit of info.
I have to admit I kind of wrote this feature off as a gimmick to give them a bullet point that Rock Band doesn’t have, but seeing this picture, maybe it could actually work.
There’s seven chords on that guitar tab. That’s fully four more chords than you need to rock. It seems like a determined person could dunt out a decent song. You won’t have the same level of control you do in a guitar, but you could probably cleverly work within your limitations.
Admittedly most songs created won’t be very good, but if even 1% of those shared are decent, that wouldn’t be a half-bad library.
We’ll have to wait and see if all this is compelling enough for people to invest in yet another set of pretend instruments. With all the up-front cost, will rhythm games be the new console wars?
