30 Rock “Apollo, Apollo” 3/26

Apparently, Dean Winters isn’t working hard enough on “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” so they brought Dennis Duffy back to “30 Rock.” Liz’s scummy yet somehow appealing ex-boyfriend has discovered that he’s a sex addict, and although Liz is skeptical, he is determined to apologize to all the women he has wronged by “ruining them for other men.” Liz brushes off his apology, but when she answers Jenna’s cell phone during a rehearsal, she is shocked to learn that Dennis got to her best friend too.

Although she doesn’t want to give Dennis the satisfaction of coming between them, Liz finds that she can’t help but harbor a little resentment against Jenna. During a stunt for the show, Jenna must go in a harness suspended above the studio. When Liz notices an open clasp on the harness, she doesn’t say anything, and Jenna falls and injures herself. Oh no! Strife in the TGS cast!

Meanwhile Jack is trying to recapture the lost joy of his youth by making himself so happy that he vomits…just like he did as a boy. He also orchestrates an elaborate hoax to make Tracy think he’s landing on the moon. All in a day’s work for Jack Donaghy.

But all of this pales in comparison to the episode’s climax, in which Jenna gets her revenge by telling the writer’s table about a phone sex ad that Liz did in her younger days. Frank instantly locates the ad and plays it, much to the delight of everyone:

And yeah, that’s pretty much it. It’s a classic “30 Rock” moment, but the episode as a whole just isn’t good enough for it to add up to greatness.

In conclusion, for a good time, call 1-900-OK-FACE. If you can figure out how.
