Remember how Brütal Legend doesn’t have a publisher after Activision dropped a whole bunch of titles? Variety claims to have spoken to sources that say the publisher is still jerking Double Fine around, even though they won’t publish the game.

I spoke to some sources on the Double Fine side and they said the problem isn’t that other publishers aren’t interested. They say it’s that Activision Blizzard has been “an impediment” and that they’re “blocking the process.”

Unsubstantiated rumors are unsubstantiated rumors, but if true: dick move, guys. (The new Activision Blizzard declined to comment to Variety.)

It woudl at least explain why, after all this time, so many other games that Activision shed have found a home, but Brütal Legend still hasn’t. What would Activision have to gain by blocking Double Fine? I don’t know enough to even speculate.

I really want to see this game come out already. Heck, I don’t even mind that it stars Jack Black playing the same ernest-but-put-upon-musician-who-nevertheless-posesses-the-true-spirit-of-RAWK character that he played in Tenacious D.*
