Advent Rising
Advent Rising is the first part of the trilogy that never was. The story was co-written by Orson Scott Card, the writer of Ender’s Game. A well written and well made game, it never sold enough copies to merit the then planned sequels.
The most enduring feature of the game is the story. The plot revolves around Gideon Wyeth, one of the last surviving humans in a sci-fi adventure. It is discovered that with training humans can unlock hidden powers within themselves. Gideon saves an alien race from destruction and finds a new home in the process. I won’t give away the ending for those planning to pick up, but it is sufficient to say there is a twist ending that you will never see coming.
The second best feature the game has going for it is the combat. The game is a third person shooter with some interesting aerobatics thrown in. Gideon’s primary mode of combat is dual pistols, but he will also unlock new powers throughout the game to assist in combat. By the end of the game the players is throwing enemies around with telekinesis and shooting balls of energy.
The game is fairly cheap now and can be found for about the same price as a game rental for the Xbox. I fully recommend picking up the game.
