Aladin’s Sad Song

On the heels of ripoff artists like The Asylum comes Dingo Pictures, from - where else? - Germany.

Dingo PicturesAbout a week before a major Disney film is released, have you ever noticed the cheap ripoff DVDs in the grocery store? The ones with titles like Aladin and Little Dalmatians? These guys are one of the biggest culprits. If you’re childless, you might find yourself at the checkout stand thinking, who buys this crap? Parents, of course - the parents of kids who don’t know the difference between Disney and Dingo.

Their home page is a great example of the quality of their art. (Notice the blatant tracing of Simba.) But their crowning glory is the plot descriptions, in a language that is allegedly English:

Aladin is the son of a poor tailor. But with the help of Dschinni, a friendly ghost, he achieves luck and wealth. And since this is a fairy tale, he marries the sultan’s beautiful daughter in the end.

Way to spoil the plot!

From Arischa, the little witch:

Something nobody knew: there is a midget called Heraldo
And Heraldo is a nasty midget – he can bewitch too and his passion is to grab animals to his fossil collection of animals in front of his cavern. Fortunatly … the raven remembers the magic stone Arisha had in her basket.

Those nasty midgets.

In this world, there are good films and there are bad films. And there are really, really awful ripoffs that are produced in about 30 minutes by people whose total sum of artistic experience is making macaroni pictures in the fourth grade. Please don’t let your friends and family buy a Dingo DVD. Stick with the real stuff - and play some Animation movie trivia on Kwanzoo. We promise there won’t be an Aladin pop quiz.

I’m tempted to point out that you can’t squeeze blood from a turnip, but it might just be wishful thinking that Dingo isn’t making an OBSCENELY MASSIVE profit off of these things. Maybe there just isn’t much of a case in it? Since Disney borrows from fairy tales, Shakespeare, Kimba the White Lion, etc. I’m not sure they want to open that can of worms. They’re not actually using the same names or anything…

If you’ve never heard of Phoenix Games, check them out - you’ll notice some startling character similarities. Nobody’s sure of the Dingo/Phoenix connection just yet, beyond the fact that they both make horrible horrible products.
