Argento Goes Back To The Familiar With Giallo
So we all remember Snakes on a Plane, right? A horror flick that wasn’t as good as it could have been but still better than it had any right to be? The horror flick whose only real draw was to see how many times Sam Jack would wind up screaming profanities and feel vaguely disappointed that the total wasn’t higher than it was?
Well, Elsa Pataky, who you may or may not remember as Maria from Snakes on a Plane, will next be showing up in Dario Argento’s upcoming next film Giallo.
Giallo, which translates as Yellow and is Argento’s first new film in some while, sounds like it’s going to be something of a disappointment. Sure, I got a real kick out of Argento’s The Card Player, which was a pretty sweet ride with the otherwise-yawnfest plot element of serial killers being jazzed up by the addition of video poker as a plot device. No, seriously. You read that right: video poker as a plot device.
Oh, and further in its favor is the addition of scorching hot Asia Argento who, let’s face it, folks, definitely has the capacity to spark up a slow flick.
The plot, meanwhile, is the problem. It’s your standard Class-X slasher film about attractive young women being diced up in a nice and serial fashion whilst a lone wolf cop engages in one of your good old fashioned cat-and-mouse games with the killer in question. I can’t count how many times I’ve already seen this movie, and Argento hasn’t finished shooting it yet.
