Brett Ratner Will NOT Be Directing The Wolf Man!
The rumor mill went positively nuts over the idea of who was going to direct The Wolf Man. Some serious names got thrown around like so much pie at a Three Stooges film festival. John Landis was suggested, and someone else threw out Frank Darabont, and before you know it out of a clear blue sky dropped Brett Ratner of all things!
It’s Official!
That’s right, o my readership, the official new director of The Wolf Man is–not Brett Ratner.
Okay, I’ll let the cheering die down and then tell you that it’s Joe Johnston that’ll be helming The Wolf Man. Now, this should have you pretty cheery enthusiastic for a whole host of reasons, not least of which is that Joe Johnston’s got a pretty solid career full of pretty solid movies. Granted, nothing great and fabulous–Hidalgo was pretty sweet and there wasn’t anything specifically wrong with October Sky. Even Jumanji had plenty of good things you could say about it. The guy has a huge slate of movies to his credit, but not a lot of horror flicks to speak of. Frankly, I can’t even find one horror flick he handled.
This Worries Me.
Yes, yes, I’m somewhat concerned too–a total horror noob taking on a project like The Wolf Man? ‘Scuse me if I look askance. But…but he does have that big old career full of lots of other half-decent movies. Surely that suggests that lightning can strike twice if it’s already struck like a dozen times.
Regardless of personal feelings, it’ll be all the way in 2009 before we can give a truly informed judgment. And to get better acquainted with Joe Johnston’s monster career beforehand, play the Joe Johnston trivia on Kwanzoo.
