Bringing Back Twilight Cast Costs Big Bank

So it’s clear by now that Twilight is well on its way to being one of the biggest vampire movies in a long time, roundly kicking the ass of 30 Days of Night, which proves you should never underestimate the power of fangirls in large groups.

What should be equally clear, especially after I mention it, is that the leads will be getting a POTLOAD of money to come back for the sequel, said potload representing a five hundred percent raise.

Indeed, quite accurate, as Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattison’s pay will go from two million a pop to TWELVE million a pop.  Though I confess it’s not TOTALLY accurate as both Stewart and Pattison will be getting a cut of the grosses in addition to their massive pay raise, so it’s even bigger than five hundred percent.

Now, I’m in favor of this kind of thing–when those “little people” who help make your project a big success get a fair slice of the resulting pie I’m always happy. I hope that this extends all the way down to the set designers and costume folk and prop wranglers and such, too, but my hopes there are not so high.

I do, however, take issue with why this thing made so much money in the first place.  Even MTV was calling it out, and you know that MTV is basically the death of Western Civilization on two handy cable channels.  Enormous amounts of critics–and even some of the fans!–were RAILING against this wreck, but it’s still making bank.  It’s an interesting question; maybe, just maybe, they’re handing out the loot a little too quickly.  Will the second Twilight, whatever it’s finally called, bring IN twenty four million dollars?  Let alone whatever else it’s got to make to pay off everybody else!

No way to know until the other one comes out, of course, but I look for this move to bite them in the ass in the end.
