It’s another slow news day for video games. I guess everyone is holding their cards to their chest for E3 in two weeks.

However, here’s some good news for retrogamers: Chrono Trigger is coming to the DS. That teaser site went up earlier, and Square-Enix confirmed what it was.

“But Matt,” you might say. “You totally ragged on Square-Enix when you thought they’d be pumping out endless spinoffs instead of innovating! Isn’t re-releasing old games even worse?”

To which I would say “Man, get stuffed like the strawman you are. Chrono Trigger is a genuinely great game, and not everyone has had an opportunity to play it. The SNES cartridge went for a fortune on the secondhand market, and the PlayStation port had annoying load times. There’s got to be a whole generation of people out there who haven’t had the chance to appreciate this gem, and the DS is at just about the right level graphically to make a good home for it.”

“But wireless multiplayer?” I’d add. “That sounds like a weird thing to add to a turn-based game. Well, whatever. It doesn’t detract anything.”
