Dancing in the Sun
Sundance! It certainly has the best title of any major film festival. If that’s not enough for you, bear in mind that many small-time movies use Sundance as an opportunity to find a distributor. What makes it to your hometown theatres is determined by studio representatives somehow in Utah. Encouraging, isn’t it?
But now, thanks to blogs, we get a sneak peek at what’s likely to make it to the marquees in the upcoming months. So what’s up with Sundance? What are everyone’s favorites? Let’s take a look.
This one was engaged in a bidding war between two studios, which is always a good sign. It’s purportedly a fascinating documentary about the teenage life. We can all look forward to a full trailer soon, since Paramount Vantage picked it up.
I’ve written about this Chuck Palahniuk adaptation before, but now I’ve got even better news: it has a distributor (Fox Searchlight) and will be released on August 1st. The film has been very popular at the festival, and we’ll soon have a chance to find out why.
Critics have been charmed by this tale of imagination and the beauty of childhood, starring Elle Fanning - Dakota’s younger doppelganger sister. Expect to see it find wider release soon, though it may not hit big theatres for a while.
Keep an eye on your favorite blogs to find out what this summer has to offer - I’ll see you at the movies!
