Don’t Die For Me, Argentina–The Newest Home Of Horror?

Is THIS the new face of horror??I don’t know…someone somewhere is paying attention to me, I guess, and opening up the floodgates for horror from all around the world.

Remember When I Was Complaining About Originality?

I’ve got less reason to complain by the day, because seemingly out of nowhere, Lions Gate announces Left For Dead—a truly unlikely horror / western hybrid from the extraordinarily unlikely Argentina.

Argentina? Are You Kidding Me? Argentina. You’re Serious, Aren’t You?

At this point my mind is blown clear out of its socket. A horror western alone is strange enough—we don’t see them very often at all—but the fact that it’s from Argentina is even more unbelievable. It’s a strange concept, like an American samurai movie or a Russian movie about three French chefs. One has to look at it, and wonder, are they sufficiently versed in the culture to understand it fully? Not that I’m being all ethnocentric, mind you, but it’s still an issue. I can’t say for sure how it will turn out—can a movie about another culture ever be completely whole and accurate when seen through the eyes of a totally different one?—but I confess, I’m looking forward to finding out.

And you too can take a run at horror trivia and Western trivia in advance of Argentina’s crack at the Western.
