Sigourney Weaver, apparently, is very, very interested in shooting Alien 5.

“I would definitely do another if I had a director like Ridley Scott and we had a good idea,” she says of the classic sci-fi movie franchise. “Ridley is enthusiastic about it.”

Which isn’t what you’d call a huge surprise–her resume for the last ten years looks like holy hell.  Packed with voiceovers and featuring titles like “Heartbreakers”, “Holes”, and M.Night Shyamalan stinkbomb “The Village”, it’s clear that Sigourney Weaver would probably happily shoot any one of us for a chance at Ripley money again.  Oh, sure, it’s not a total loss–she landed the ship’s computer bit-part in Wall-E and Pixar cash is always fat, but still.  Bit part.

Naturally, Fox hasn’t been terribly interested in the concept, since they’ve been milking the Alien Vs. Predator side of things for a couple years now.  But Weaver herself makes a good point–if Harrison Ford can still geezer his way through Indiana Jones, then why can’t Weaver take another run at Ripley?  Not to disparage the elderly overmuch, but surely there’s more original things we can be trying out instead of dredging the lake for the corpses of franchises long dead.
