Endless reasons why the Steelers will win the Super Bowl

I’m struggling to come up with legitimate reasons why the Arizona Cardinals could win the Super Bowl this year. All I’ve got: they have gotten lucky every step of the way and, maybe, just maybe, they could get lucky one more time.

On the other hand, I have begun to compile endless reasons why the Steelers will win the Super Bowl, other than the fact that they have the best scoring defense (giving up just under 14 points per game in the regular season) and gave up the least yards per game, the least passing yards per game and the second least rushing yards in 2008.

So, the Steelers had the best defense in the NFL throughout the 2008 season (and 2007!). Everybody knows defense wins games.

Pittsburgh has won five Super Bowls. It has a history of winning the Super Bowl. Arizona has never been to the Super Bowl and has a history of being a losing team.

With a victory, the Steelers would hold the all-time lead for most Super Bowl wins of any franchise. The Steelers, Cowboys and 49ers have all won five.

The Steelers had an impressive 12-4 record throughout the regular season, while the Cardinals were a rather lackluster 9-7. Six of the Cardinals wins came against unrespectable opponents from the NFC West. The Cardinals were a pathetic 3-7 in non-divisional games

The Steelers only losses came against respectable playoff contending opponents.

  • Philadelphia, who made it to the NFC championship game.New York, who was the No. 1 NFC seed during the regular season.
  • Indianapolis, who had just begin their 9-game win streak to qualify for a Wild Card.
  • Tennessee, who was the No. 1 seed during the regular season.

Arizona had several questionable losses.

At Washington? How does a team that loses at Washington make the Super Bowl?

And you can’t forget their 40-point loss against a Patriots squad that didn’t even make the playoffs.

And what about a 28-point loss to the Eagles during the regular season?

I mean, come on, even Brett Favre beat them by 21 points.

What kind of champion would lose to Minnesota at home by three touchdowns?

Although both teams just had a bye to get prepared for the big game, the Steelers have the advantage of a recent bye week (Wild Card Weekend), while the Cardinals had played 13 straight games since their previous week off.

This late in the season, 37-year-old Kurt Warner must be getting fatigued.

The last time a 37-year-old quarterback started in the Super Bowl, he threw five interceptions during the game. Congratulations, Rich Gannon.

In the history of Super Bowls, no starting quarterback aged 37 or older has ever been responsible for his team winning the Super Bowl - aside from the legendary John Elway.

Unitas couldn’t get the job done in Super Bowl V. He was pulled out, and his team went on to win without him.

Stay tuned for my game prediction coming soon.
