Entertainment Beats: a Kwanzoo News Update

Kwanzoo continues its march out of beta!

We got the celebrity trivia channel up and running. Sports is next, and the NFL and NCAA football channel should be going live in a few weeks.

We’ve got kind of a long pipeline on our staff-written trivia, so we’re still gradually adding new content on the site in movies & TV, celebrity and video games. There’s a steady stream of 150 to 300 new questions in each of our channels every week, the idea being to give people a reason to visit regularly. You may notice the new topics are announced here or on the front page.

My own particular specialty is video games, and I think we’ve filled in a lot of the must-have stuff like Metroid and Zelda, but there’s still some cleanup that needs to be done on player-challenged trivia that’s languishing in review limbo.

The focus of the tech guys right now is some features for the “social” side of the whole social trivia thing. Kwanzoo is meant to be more than just lots of trivia questions. It’s to be a place for people to celebrate the weird, the obscure, and, well… the trivial. To that end, the player profile pages were expanded recently, and the whiteboard feature should be going live soon. We’ll be getting forums up in the near future to give the community a place to grow.

What we’re really hoping for is to get the user-submitted trivia really rolling, currently accessible from the “My trivia” tab in the upper right of the site navigation. Giving it more visibility in the site layout might help, but we’re flying a little blind in the dearth of a feedback mechanism. So, how’s the site so far working for you? We’d love to hear from you.
