Find Your Style With the Kwanzoo Fashion Widget
When you open your closet in the morning, what do you find there? An array of season-appropriate, designer branded suits? Slogan t-shirts and worn out jeans? Or something inbetween? Whether your closet is stocked with high-end clothes from Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Ave, and Tommy Hilfiger, or outfitted at Nordstrom, Old Navy, the GAP, and Sears, it’s something you take pride in. Everybody has their own unique style, but when it comes to figuring out what yours is, it can be helpful to determine your priorities in a few major areas. This was the exact philosophy the Kwanzoo team employed when we developed our fashion quiz:
In order to ensure accurate results for all quiz-takers, we had to come up with three sets of opposing traits that described the important facets of clothes-shopping. See if you can recognize yourself in any of them.
Are you…CASUAL?
Almost everybody dresses down when they’re lounging around at home, but for some of us, “dressing up” means digging around in the closet for hours trying to find the components to a presentable outfit that
doesn’t involve denim. If you don’t have to wear a suit for your job and find yourself shopping in sweatpants, you’re probably the casual type. It’s cool to be comfortable, and these days, plenty of people show up to class in P.J. pants or greet guests in a track suit - you definitely live in the right century!
Are you…FORMAL?
Maybe it’s just that your job requires a strict dress code, or maybe you like to dress up and go out on the
town. Whatever the reason, you won’t be caught dead in worn-out clothes or anything with visible elastic. Even when you’re relaxing at home, you might color-coordinate in case someone stops by. Looking sharp is important to you - maybe people won’t judge you based on your appearance, but there’s no sense in taking chances. Simply put, you feel most comfortable when you know you look fantastic.
Are you…LARGER?
Whether you’re curvy, big-boned, extra tall, or some combination of all three, it can be particularly hard to find clothes that fit and look great. While everybody has to consider their unique body types when trying on
outfits, you often have a more difficult time than most. Remember to avoid vertical stripes (even pinstripes) if you don’t want to artifically increase your height. In general, the parts of your body that are larger can be downplayed by wearing black or dark colors, versus bright colors in areas you want to accentuate.
Are you…SMALLER?
Petite and slender folks have their own issues to consider when shopping for clothes; although you can fit into everything, not everything fits properly. You’ve got to be careful to avoid falling into the too-baggy trap, and also the too-tight trap - both will make you look smaller than you are. Your best bet? Pick outfits that fit you well, and wear stylish layers. These can help add volume in places where you feel slight. To make yourself appear taller, subtle pinstripes and long lines draw the eye upward. Avoid scoop-necked shirts in favor of V-necks.
Do you prefer…PRICEY clothes?
In your shopping experience, you’ve learned that you get what you pay for. As a result, you prefer to buy only
the highest-quality clothing, even if the price seems a little high. Designer stores and high-end retailers are a friend to you, and while you appreciate sales like everyone else, you simply refuse to sacrifice quality in order to save money. Even for casual wear, you still trust higher-end brands more than discount stores and cheaper retailers that don’t specialize in clothing.
Do you prefer…BUDGET clothes?
In your opinion, it simply doesn’t make sense to spend a bunch of money on something that’s going to get thrown in the washing machine. And what’s the real difference between a $20 pair of jeans and a $200 one,
anyway? Your favorite part of buying new outfits is relishing the amount of money you saved with sales and coupons. Since you’ve mastered the art of looking good without breaking the bank, you don’t have to sacrifice much to keep your clothing budget small.
