Fringe: “The Arrival” 9/30/08
It was inevitable that the nomadic Peter Bishop on “Fringe” should eventually demand to leave Boston. It’s the first wrench that’s been thrown into the smooth formula of the show since the beginning, which is nice - I’ve been complaining since the pilot that they don’t have enough obstacles.
“The Arrival” deals with the, well, arrival of what appears to be a giant, vibrating bullet that comes from under
the ground for no apparent reason. A creepy bald guy who loves spicy foods seems to either anticipate or cause the arrival somehow, but our protagonists don’t know that right away.
Olivia decides to investigate by visiting her old buddy, aka Behrooz’s dad from 24. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0785594/ He tells her to be careful, and Olivia goes no to display her amazing skills at the game of Memory. You know, the card game where you have to try and remember things, as the name suggests. She’s able to identify the creepy bald guy in two Pattern-related photographs, upon which she finds out that the FBI knew about it all along.
Of course.
If this pattern keeps up, Olivia’s going to get discouraged very fast.
Peter and Walter get into a violent argument over tinfoil, as is their wont, and Walter’s obsession with rootbeer rages on. So it’s basically the same-old, same-old for the Fringe crew - until Walter unexpectedly turns on an ally and stabs them with a syringe! OMG! No way! Right before commercial break! Oh no! Why?!
Then, Olivia’s old friend gets tortured and interrogated by a man in a stocking cap! SUSPENSE! LOUD POUNDING MUSIC! IPOD EARBUDS!
What will happen? Will the bald guy be good or bad? Will Walter stop being such a weirdo? And will he ever get his rootbeer float?
To find out the answers to these questions and more, I’m afraid you’ll have to watch Fringe for yourself. Luckily, it’s available to watch online.
