Gamer Score Addiction

Lately I have been realizing that my Xbox Live Gamerscore might be a little lacking compared to a lot of the scores I have seen out there. There are quite a few people that are quite literally addicted to their gamerscores. There is a certain sense of accomplishment when you can state a precise number that represents the sum of your achievements over all Xbox 360 games.

One of the big question is, will PS3’s trophy system be able to match? The Xbox Live Achievement system is well established and well respected, while the PS3 Network Trophies are struggling to get developers to add trophy achievements to already released games. Microsoft had the forethought to realize that one thing hard-core gamers love is bragging about their prowess to other gamers.

According to a recent NPD study, hard-core gamers buy an average of 8 games a month. At this rate of game purchases, it helps Microsoft quite a bit to have hard-core gamers be drawn to buy games on their console for a better gamer score.

A high gamerscore can be near 300,000 right now. Think that’s too high? I do. You can check out my own gamerscore above.
