WHO’S OUT: Four of eight NFL divisional winners were decided Sunday in a bizarre turn of events.
With wins in their final game, the Dolphins (AFC East), Chargers (AFC West), Vikings (NFC North) and Panthers (NFC South) were crowned the winners of their respective divisions. Heading into Week 17, the Steelers (AFC North), Titans (AFC South), Giants (NFC East) and Cardinals (NFC West) had already clinched their divisions.

Game of the Week: Had referee Ed Hochuli not made a terrible call in Week 2, this would be no Game of the Week and the San Diego Chargers (7-8) would have already been crowned the winner of the AFC West over the Denver Broncos (8-7).
The Chargers were predicted as one of the most probable teams to win the Super Bowl during the offseason and are now on the verge of being shutout of the NFL playoffs. With a win over Denver this week at home, San Diego can clinch the pathetic AFC West division with a mediocre 8-8 record.

With the conclusion of Week 16, there is just one week left in the NFL season. Typically, at this time of the season, you expect to see glorious moments. Not the case this week.
Week 16 was full of terrible moments.

It may only be Week 16 of the NFL season, but you might as well consider it a preview of the playoffs. There are several interesting AFC-NFC matchups (Ravens @ Cowboys & Cardinals @ Patriots), however, somehow, someway, the schedule maker has the No. 1- and 2-ranked AFC and NFC teams facing each other.
Although I’m pinning Carolina-New York as the Game of the Week, the Pittsburgh-Tennessee has just as much significance on the line.

Heading into Week 15, the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans both held the best records in their respective conferences. However, they both fell as victims to divisional rivals on the road.
AFC: The Titans should have won this week against the Houston Texans, but head coach Jeff Fisher sure blew it for them. On fourth-and-three, with a score of 13-12 in favor of the Texans, there is no way in hell he should (although he did) have tried to pick up the first down, especially since long distance field goal-kicking specialist Rob Bironas was sitting on the sidelines. Bironas, a 2007 Pro Bowler, is almost a lock to nail any kick over 40 yards. It almost seems as if the further he goes, the better he gets.

GAME OF THE WEEK: The only two real teams in the AFC North (Pittsburgh Steelers 10-3, Baltimore Ravens 9-4) will square off Sunday in Baltimore for a showdown that could determine which of the two teams is crowned the divisional champ in two weeks.
Earlier in the season, the Steelers survived a 23-20 overtime battle against the Ravens on a 46-yard Jeff Reed field goal.

NFL: What a terrible day it was for the NFC East. The division, considered by numerous football experts, myself included, as the strongest division the NFL, seemed like it was going to eat up both of the wild card slots for the second season in a row just a few weeks ago. Now it appears that just the Giants (11-2), who have already clinched the division, will be heading towards the playoffs.
The Cowboys (8-5), the preseason pick of many experts (once again that includes me), were the favorite to win this division and are on the brink of losing out (they host the Giants, the Ravens and finish at Philadelphia).

Oakland @ San Diego- Knowing how the season has won for the Chargers thus far, it seems quite likely that the Raiders could actually win this one with easy, however, I’m hoping that the Chargers will not sink to that end of the barrel and be able to squeeze out a victory against their intrastate rival.
Jacksonville @ Chicago- I have lost all faith in my Jaguars and for the first time recent recollection, I’m actually going to pick against them…gimme Da Bears.

The Big 12 North division was completely outplayed by its counterpart South division. The North’s divisional winner would have wound up in fifth place had it been in the South.
1. Missouri (9-3, 5-3 Big 12) started off 5-0 but dropped the next two against Big 12 South division’s Oklahoma State and Texas. The Tigers rebounded with four straight wins but couldn’t survive the Jayhawks in their finale.

1. Penn State (11-1, 7-1 Big 10) is headed for the roses. The Nittany Lions near perfect season (lost to Iowa) includes wins at Ohio State and against Michigan State. JoePa got the job done, but can his team compete with Pac-10’s USC in the Rose Bowl? I don’t think so, stayed tuned for more on that in the upcoming weeks.
2. Ohio State (10-2, 7-1) only lost when it counted (at USC and against Penn State). The Buckeyes season may have been good enough to receive an at-large BCS bid, only time will tell.
